MBA501 - Leadership Issues in Management

Books and Media

The library has a large collection of books and audio visual material (AV material) covering various topics related to the area of business. A number of the titles may be accessed online through the library's online catalog. To access these you will need to perform a keyword search in the online catalog using words describing your topic.

For instance, you may want to see what we have on the broad topic of leadership in business. To find titles you will search by keying in the search box, leadership and business. The results will include books found in the Ursuline library, online books, videos found in the Ursuline Media Center, and online videos. If you are taking and online course, you may want to limit your search to only include online books and AV material. This can be done by choosing the Modify Search button and limiting the Material Type to E-Books or Electronic Video. In order to fully access the content you will be prompted to enter your name and Ursuline ID number which is found on the front of your Ursuline ID card. Just a few examples of the titles you will find online in the collection include the following. Keep in mind new titles are frequently being added to the collection.

Harvard Business Review on Leadership
The virtues of leadership contemporary challenges for global managers
Moral intelligence for the entrepreneur

If you are not finding what you are looking for in our collection, we recommend searching the OhioLINK catalog. Here you will search the collections of over 80 academic institutions within Ohio. The materials may be requested to be sent to the Ursuline Library or another OhioLINK institution near you.

Research Articles

The Ursuline Library has access to thousands of articles online through our online databases. These databases may be searched similarly to the online catalog by entering keywords related to your topic. As part of a graduate degree program, you will be required to read scholarly peer reviewed journal articles. When searching the databases, you will see an option to limit to these articles. Databases that are helpful to those researching business topics may be found under the database section devoted to business. Of those in this section, you may find the following to be the most useful, though you should not limit yourself just their use. You will also be prompted to enter your name and Ursuline ID number in order to gain access to the databases.

Business Source Complete
Entrepreneurial Studies Source
Lexis Nexis

Many items will be found online within the database. For those instances when you do not see the PDF or HTML version of the article click on the "Find It!" button. This initiates a search across all databases to which we subscribe to locate the article. If found, you will be prompted to go to the article. If the article is not found online or is in our physical collection, please use the Article Request service to have the article delivered to you via email.

Company Information

You may have a need to find information on various companies throughout the program. Most large companies provide their annual reports on their web sites, but you will probably want more information. Business Source Complete has a section specifically for searching company information (found at the top of the screen in the blue bar) and company profiles (found under the drop down menu of More at the top of the screen in the blue bar). You can also run a search for the company's name in the database to find articles on the company. If you are looking for information on a non-profit company you will find Lexis Nexis is a better resource. This database has information on both profit and non-profit companies. You will want to search the company's name in the box labeled "Get Company Info".

Citing Sources

Citing sources can be the hardest part of a research paper. The library offers access to RefWorks which is a tool that assists in organizing resources and creating bibliographies in APA format. RefWorks works with the library's online databases to compile necessary information used in citing sources. It also offers an additional tool, Write-N-Cite that can assist in creating in text citations. RefWorks offers online tutorials to assist in its use, or you may contact a reference librarian who can provide assistance. As with anything mistakes can be made when using RefWorks. Information can come over from the databases incorrectly due to coding or information can be missing from the record. It is recommended that you look over the work that is produced by RefWorks. We recommend the use of the OWL by Purdue. This provides an online easy to understand version of the APA handbook.

The Library has a number of online tutorials to help you search our databases. Please take few moments to look through them before beginning your research.

Please don't waste hours trying to figure something out. Contact the reference desk right away when you find yourself in need of assistance.
