Searching for Books and Ebooks:

Library Catalog
  • Search one or two keywords for best search results.
  • To limit the catalog to Reference books, click on the "Modify Search" link and limit by Location by selecting "Reference" from the drop-down menu.

Searching for Journal Articles:

Recommended Databases:
  • URsearch
    • All-in-one search tool that searches 200+ Ursuline databases.
    • Limit to Full Text + Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals + set the language limiter to English after entering your search terms.
  • Academic Search Complete - Indexes scholarly resources from all academic areas.

Database Search Tips:
  • Search one or two keywords for best search results.
    • Use Firefox or Chrome to get the drop-down box under the search bar for keyword suggestions.
  • Think about RELEVANCE
  • Boolean Searching: Combine search terms and concepts using AND/OR
    • Use OR to broaden your search to include synonyms and related terms (race OR ethnicity OR ethnic OR racial)
    • Use AND to narrow your search by combining concepts
    • Truncation: Use an asterisk * to find word variants (ex: psych* = psychology, psychological, psychiatric, psychotic, etc.)
  • How to find the FULL-TEXT:
    • Click on the PDF Full Text link or the Find It! button to look for the full-text in another database.
    • No PDF or Find It! link? Try searching for the journal title in Journal Finder or see if the article is freely available online.
    • If you still can't find the full-text, you can submit an Article Request form. Please note it may take several days to process your article request!

Citing Sources

  • Noodle Tools Express - Select style and the type of source you are citing, then fill in the form to generate a citation you can copy & paste.
  • Most article databases provide citation generators - look for a "Cite" tool or link in the right-hand navigation of the article description page.

Keep in mind that you're responsible for editing your citations! If you're using online tools to help you construct your citations, always check for errors.

Off-Campus Access

To use Ursuline Library electronic resources from off-campus, you will be prompted to enter your first & last name (ex: John Doe) and your Ursuline ID number (ex: 1234567).
